Maths Tutoring for Primary and High School Students

We are a small but growing tutoring centre specialising in class tuition of high school mathematics. We are based in Bardwell Park, next to the train station. Our classes have an average of six students across various schools with students of various abilities. We are passionate about teaching maths and want tutors to engage and motivate our students so they enjoy coming to tutoring rather than it being a chore. 

We are seeking a maths tutor on a casual basis but hope they can commit to our centre and stay long term.
 

Teaching duties:

• teach catchup lessons to new students who are joining our centre because they are not ready to join our regular class program until they have learned some pre-requisite knowledge. 

• teach catchup lessons where students have been absent and need a lesson to catch them up on work they missed, normally one or two students at a time for 90 minutes or 2 hours. 

• substitute classes where the regular tutor is absent or unavailable, normally 90 min or two hour lessons. 

• help prepare or check theory notes and answers to homework sheets and tests. 

• You will usually work 2-6 hours per week.

The topic structure and student worksheets are provided to you, but you will need to do some preparation work in terms of familiarising yourself with the topic theory and preparing example questions to teach the class.

Candidate requirements:

- must have completed study of Mathematics Extension 2 and achieved a minimum Band E3 in their HSC result. 

- must be able to work on Thursday or Friday afternoon 3:30pm-6:30pm. 

- be organised, responsive to email/SMS and reliable to come and teach lessons when we have booked you.
- be punctual and prepared in arriving to work.

- neat presentation and dress attire.

- be committed to be employed in our centre, potentially long term, and available in the hours that you provide to us.

- be able to show care for the students and try to engage and motivate them eg. have some fun or be conversational.

- be approachable and flexible if students need help or ask questions.
